The Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang Pavilion

Come experience the new exhibit opening in September in the Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang Pavilion with 8,500 square feet of continuous gallery space–the largest in San Francisco. The inaugural digital experience was from teamLab that brought technology and design into new levels of creativity and interpretation.

Into View: Bernice Bing

Be the first to explore the new exhibit Into View: Bernice Bing opening on October 7, 2022. This exhibit celebrates the remarkable achievements of Bernice Bing (1936-1998), an important Asian American artist who was born in San Francisco’s Chinatown in 1936. With influences from Zen Buddhism, traditional Chinese art and calligraphy, she “stretched the boundaries of Modernism.” Into View: Bernice Bing will be the first in the ongoing series of exhibitions that highlights the work of under-recognized modern artists.

Enjoy the live music stylings of Guzheng musician Kari Lee from the San Francisco Guzheng Music Society during the Cocktail hour.

The guzheng originated over 2500 years ago in China with the earliest known versions constructed with a bamboo frame and silk strings. The guzheng remained popular through the late Qing dynasty (1644 A.D. – 1911 A.D.), where arrangements of classical and popular works such as “High Mountain and Flowing Water” and “Evening Song of the Fisherman” were recorded. In 1948, the renowned musician Cao Zheng established the first university level guzheng program in China. It was there that the founder and artistic director of the San Francisco Guzheng Music Society established in 1983, Ms. Wei Shan Liu, was handpicked by Cao Zheng to be his student. Ms. Liu has established herself as one of the world’s leading guzheng virtuosos leading to extensive recordings and collaborations in recording soundtracks for films such as Thousand Pieces of Gold, Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, Dim Sum, Eat A Bowl of Tea, Five Chinese Brothers, The Round Eyes in the Twentieth Century, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, and Motherland. We look forward to enjoying the music stylings of Ms. Liu’s prized student, Kari Lee, who has been studying guzheng from a very young age.

Bring your unique hat style and creativity to the Gala as we raise cancer awareness by supporting the Asian American Cancer Support Network (AACSN).

AACSN was co-founded in 2003 by May Bakken and Dr. Fidelia Butt, ENT-Otolaryngologist at Kaiser, to help support Asian Americans in the fight against cancer. As a surgeon who saw how cancer strips away our humanity, she had the wonderful idea of hosting a gala called the Hatwalk to celebrate cancer survivors. The cancer survivors model hats created and donated from volunteers. The idea is that cancer can take away our hair but not our dignity. We are excited to display some of the hats from Hatwalk and encourage guests to wear their best hats to the gala to raise awareness.

Join us for the Awards Program to honor and celebrate the immense contributions of our Awardees, Dr. Richard Pan and Dr. Peter Chin-Hong.

Enjoy the evening dessert buffet and dance the night away!
